come one, come all... a circus themed first birthday

I wanted to share some photos of a wonderfully styled first birthday party I went to recently. It was cousins Liam and Malin's first birthday and their creative mums Karen and Nicole (that's them in the photo above) put together this circus themed party. My favourite element of the party was the photo booth with lots of quirky and cool props. Ethan (big brother to Liam) was the photographer on the day and did a great job. He's probably the coolest ten year old around.

From Karen and Nicole on how they put the party together...
"When our kids turned one, we went all out creating the most amazing circus themed party with lots of delicious food and loads of cool things going on... in case you're feeling inspired to create your own circus party, this is how we created ours.

"With so much of the party catering and decorating being DIY, it meant a lot of cooking, organising and setting up had to be done at the last minute. In fact, much of it was done just hours before the party!

"We got our design inspiration from blogs and websites featuring birthday parties {hostess with the mostess and catch my party}. A lot of the decoration ideas we picked up online at different party supplies websites. Keeping in mind all of the various ideas we had seen, we created a vision that we thought worked for our space {our parents backyard}. A lot of the finer details {happy birthday sign, good signs, photo booth} were made by creative hands.

"We made vanilla cream cupcakes using a white wings cupcake mix, purchased pre-made icing, using jaffas, chocolate freckles, M&Ms, violet crumble to decorate. We bought the paper baking cups, plates, serviettes, table runner and bunting online from Paper Eskimo and got the flags at Pink Frosting.

"The cookies and cream ice cream cake pops were supplied by Cupcake-a-licious and we had our families help us supply the sandwiches, party pies, quiches, star fairy bread, crackles, fairy floss, popcorn, milky way cars and macarons. We also put on a sausage sizzle for our guests.

"As thank you gifts and take home bags for the kids we found some circus themed red and white striped lolly bags from Paper Eskimo and filled these with a chocolate elephant, a lolly hotdog, sultanas, tiny teddy, a small clown musical instrument, a small blower and some bubbles for the bath. We finished it off by tying a small styling tag with the child's name on it.

"It was the best day and a special thanks goes to our photographer Ethan who was able to capture a lot of the moments that otherwise, would have been forgotten."

  1. Wow, Karen and Nicole organized a very creative and festive circus-themed party! It’s a good thing that they were able to get inspirational designs from blogs and websites. Looking at these pictures, it would be easy to make the mistake and assume that this kiddie party was organized by professional organizers!
