shrink me down to size

Today I'm wishing I was a youngster (or very small for my age, or had a mini-me version of myself) so I could pop to the store and buy these absolutely awesome watermelon print leggings from Seed. Aren't they fab? Seed are also going to town with the flamingo trend, which is my most favourite of trends.

I actually want every piece in the girls section. I think that means that I'm not particularly grown up, hey? I'd gladly go back to being seven years old if it meant I could dress head-to-toe in flamingo!

I'm also really loving the styling on these photos. Great colour combo for summer and those cut-out props are so sweet.

meringue girls

As the Meringue Girls say "cupcakes, cakepops and macarons have had their day. Now is the age of the meringue". Looking at their beautiful creations I think they might be on to something. I saw these little meringues in Selfridges in London on my recent holiday and thought how perfectly proportioned they were. I didn't end up getting to taste one while I was there, probably because I was scoffing my face with some other treat, but after seeing them in the latest issue of Jamie magazine, I knew I had to look them up.

The Meringue Girls, Alex and Stacey, are both trained chefs and handcraft all the meringues and create the flavours - the mojito one sound especially tasty. These use free range egg whites and they are naturally gluten free.

I don't see them stocking their meringues in Sydney anytime soon, so I guess that just means I'll need to book another trip back to London - if I must! I'm excited that they have their first book coming out which will be available in September - I shall be purchasing it for myself!

colour + design {back to school}

Every Monday night for the last eight months I have been going to school, studying colour and design as part of the Certificate IV in Design at the International School of Colour of Design. I finished last week and am graduating tomorrow night (bring on the champers!) At the beginning of this year I attended an information session at their campus and on that night I could tell this was the course for me. It's an introductory (foundation) course which teaches you everything colour and design related and dabbles in colour design, surface design, graphic design, visual arts and interior styling. You can then go on to specialise in these fields with their diploma courses. I started the course thinking I would go on to do graphic design, and I finished the course thinking the same. Although it would be fun to do all the diploma courses (which a lot of people do apparently).

The course involves painting a whole lot of colour chips like in this image (we painted hundreds of them), mixing paints, learning about colour ranges, drawing, collaging, the principles and elements of design - there was so much to learn. There are assignments to do but it's pretty fun as homework goes - making colour collages, making a 3D room and researching your favourite artist - no essay writing here! Note: magazines, Pinterest, a stanley knife and a cutting mat are your best friends for the duration of this course.

I think one of the best things about this course was the ladies in my class - all coming from different career backgrounds, all wanting to learn new skills and change their future. They were all so supportive and inspiring. I can't wait to see what we all do next. It will be colourful I'm sure!

I'm wondering what to do with all my leftover paint chips. Send your ideas my way...

glasses + the colour run

Happy weekend everyone. While out and about in Sydney you might be lucky enough to pick up one the little Urban Walkabout pull-out suburb guides. They feature the lovely illustrations of Alexis De Bonis. I especially like this image from the Redfern guide as I just got my first pair of reading glasses this week so glasses are on my mind!

Have you registered for the Colour Run in Australia yet? I blogged about it earlier this year and was pretty bummed there were no plans to bring it to Australia. I'm happy to say that the cities are confirmed and dates are being announced. I've registered for the Sydney run and can't wait for next Feb. You can register here. (I think the organisers should have changed the spelling when the brought it to Australia as they've left the u out! Sorry, I'm a bit of a spelling nerd!)

happy sunday morning + link love

Happy Sunday everyone. The sun is shining and the birds are chirping.  And we get to do Sunday all over again tomorrow as it's a long weekend here - perfect!

Enjoy some fun links that have caught my attention this week...

Big Appetities - A series of photos of tiny figures conquering some pretty interesting food environments. My fave - Blackberry CSI!

10 colourful tales from Art & About Sydney - I can't wait to get out and have a look at all the installations.

Fancy up your desktop - I've got the Chill version on my desktop right now. You should have it on yours too.

pattern love + a blog make-under

I have finally given my blog a much needed makeover. Or should that be make-under? I really wasn't happy with the way this blog looked and it was making me not want to post regularly. So I have simplified things for the time being and when I get the skills to pimp ever so pink I will give it the full makeover treatment. But for now I'm pretty content with this new look. What do you think?

And now some pattern love to celebrate...
I am in love with these prints by Gary Andrew Clarke. Aren't they great? His Art Remixed series is especially awesome. I could definitely have a few of these hanging up on my wall.

neon driftwood

I'm loving these neon painted sticks from Bonjour Frenchie. If I had anywhere to put them in my house I'd definitely invest in these beauties. Check out the rest of Jessica's etsy store for more awesome pieces of art.

the paper trail

I'm kicking myself I've only just heard about The Paper Trail which was held in May this year in Byron Bay. It was a three day celebration of all things paper and it looked like a whole lot of fun. There were PiƱata making classes, letter writing and creative gift wrapping sessions. I hope it's held again next year because I want to go! You can check out more of the fun they had on their blog.

Happy Friday everyone. Don't you love this awesome font created by Joshua Scott? He made it using thousands of miniature toys. Love it!

the colo(u)r run

I don't think a white t-shirt could have more fun than at The Color Run being held in the US this year. The event is a 5 kilometre fun run where participants wear their whitest of whites and are doused in bright pigments. Each kilometre of the event is associated with a designated colour: 1km is yellow, 2km is blue, 3km is green, 4km is pink (obviously my fave), and the 5km finish line is a “Colour Extravaganza.” This certainly puts the 'fun' in 'fun run'! I think this most definitely needs to come to Australia. I couldn't think of anything better than spending a day with family and friends playing in a wonderland of colour - and passing it off as exercise!
