this building

This is the apartment block I'd like to move in to if I were ever to pick up sticks and move to Vienna. A girl can dream! I think they're probably tiny little shoe boxes of apartments but I think I could live with that knowing I could sit out on those oh-so-fancy balconies and watch life go by on the streets below.

colour + design {back to school}

Every Monday night for the last eight months I have been going to school, studying colour and design as part of the Certificate IV in Design at the International School of Colour of Design. I finished last week and am graduating tomorrow night (bring on the champers!) At the beginning of this year I attended an information session at their campus and on that night I could tell this was the course for me. It's an introductory (foundation) course which teaches you everything colour and design related and dabbles in colour design, surface design, graphic design, visual arts and interior styling. You can then go on to specialise in these fields with their diploma courses. I started the course thinking I would go on to do graphic design, and I finished the course thinking the same. Although it would be fun to do all the diploma courses (which a lot of people do apparently).

The course involves painting a whole lot of colour chips like in this image (we painted hundreds of them), mixing paints, learning about colour ranges, drawing, collaging, the principles and elements of design - there was so much to learn. There are assignments to do but it's pretty fun as homework goes - making colour collages, making a 3D room and researching your favourite artist - no essay writing here! Note: magazines, Pinterest, a stanley knife and a cutting mat are your best friends for the duration of this course.

I think one of the best things about this course was the ladies in my class - all coming from different career backgrounds, all wanting to learn new skills and change their future. They were all so supportive and inspiring. I can't wait to see what we all do next. It will be colourful I'm sure!

I'm wondering what to do with all my leftover paint chips. Send your ideas my way...

neon driftwood

I'm loving these neon painted sticks from Bonjour Frenchie. If I had anywhere to put them in my house I'd definitely invest in these beauties. Check out the rest of Jessica's etsy store for more awesome pieces of art.

tori allen: stylist

I came across these gorgeous images of stylist Tori Allen's work today. Tori is based in Melbourne and styles weddings, retail spaces and homes, mixing old and new pieces and incorporating flowers into each space. Check out her website for more of Tori's work.

paul thurlby alphabet and numbers

I really love these alphabet and number prints by Paul Thurlby. They'd look great in a kids room or study don't you think? You can also buy the book of his alphabet which would make a perfect gift for a little one (or alphabet loving adult!) The two flamingoes are obviously taking my fancy but the U for Underground is coming in a close second.

daily drop cap

The amazing Jess & Russ wedding website is being swooned over by a lot of bloggers today - myself included. It was obviously created by a pretty cool couple. I'm only just delving into the creative world of Jessica but my first stop has been the Daily Drop Cap website. Here Jessica shares an illustrative initial cap each day to bring some alphabetic beauty to our blogs. I thought this gorgeous S was too beautiful to only use as a drop cap so I'm putting it front and centre.
